Child Find Ontario, a registered non-profit organization, works with over 500 trained volunteers in over 20 chapters and regional offices across the Province. Trained, police-screened volunteers carry out our programs in local communities, including our KidCheck ID fingerprint sessions. In 2001, over 13,500 children were finger- printed throughout Ontario by Child Find volunteers. They distribute and maintain thousands of posters of missing children and speak on children's safety issues. Thanks to our presence at the grassroots, national and international level, Child Find is proud to be the largest and most comprehensive agency of its type in Canada. There is no charge for our services, and Child Find does not solicit door to door.

Parents Turn To Child Find
Child Find achieved a 98% successful recovery rate for new cases in which we were involved in 2001. Over 300 families experiencing a missing child or needing information or advice turned to us last year. (We also offer free prevention counseling and advice for families fearing a parental abduction or that their teen may run away.) We've been involved in the recovery of over 500 children and teens. Results from families who responded to the 2001 Family Evaluation Survey showed:

  • 90% of parents said their concerns were met with respect and courtesy
  • 94% said CFO staff worked with them in an atmosphere of trust and support at all times
  • 90% said the information they were given was helpful and accurate
  • Over 90% stated that we met or exceeded their expectations

And additional comments included:

  • Support always available: understanding, comforting
  • Honest and sincere follow-up from CFO. Poster out three weeks and daughter was recovered – good exposure
  • CFO's concern, courtesy, sincere – all positive

"The emotional lift that a parent receives knowing that there are people out there constantly working to help your children is critical. It helps build the inner strength needed to deal with the crisis. Child Find was there from the beginning and continued to provide emotional follow-up to and support after our children were found." Craig Merkley, Father of abducted triplets, recovered January 2001.
